Rees Town Council

A warm welcome to Rees on the Rhine

The oldest town on the lower reaches of the Lower Rhine with one of the most beautiful Rhine promenades in Germany invites you to 'pure pleasure'. The river Rhine, the town fortifications with the underground casemates, the sculpture park with a sundial on the ground that can be walked on and planet trail as well as the Rhine promenade with the over-700-year-old town walls and their various towers attract thousands of visitors every year to the resort recognised by the state.

The outstanding network of cycle paths in the only official bike-friendly town in Kleve district provides the ideal conditions for getting to know the typical Lower Rhine landscape. Passenger ferries and ships make interesting combinations of visits to both sides of the Rhine possible.

Many tourist attractions and events, especially during the Rees Summer Experience from early May to the end of September, ensure a varied stay in the historic town centre and its pleasant surrounding villages.

The excellent restaurants and hotels will be happy to welcome you after a walk, a guided tour of the town - with or without a theme - a cycling tour or a boat trip with a wonderful view of the Rhine, on one of the many Old Rhine oxbow lakes or simply in the beautiful Lower Rhine landscape.

The St├Ądtische Museum Koenraad Bosman (Museum of Art and the History of Art), the Horizontobservatorium (horizon observatory) on the mill tower, Scholten windmill, Empel castle ruins and the many cultural events in the community centre on the Market Square are also extremely popular.

We will be happy to advise you and give you valuable tips for your visit to Rees and the surrounding area at Tourist Information in the town hall during the following times:
